Data scope

Data is pieces of information which represents the attributes of variables or a set of variables. Data when processed gives valid information. Scope however has different meaning which is suitable for different context of data. Data scope together is one of the vital topics. Data scope can be defined as the area in the program code in which the data is accessible. Scope is generally referred to as the context in which the variable and expression are associated. Various programming languages have different kinds of scope. The type of scope determines the value and the data which can be stored in it. A scope may contain declarations or definition of identifiers/variables. It may also contain statements or expressions and it can be either nested or not. The variables may be defined as the named storage location and these are associated with scope. There can be different types of scope which can affect how these variables are bound to the program.

Data scope can be of two types: static and dynamic scoping. The main aim of scoping is to bind the variables in different parts of the program and makes it distant from each other. A number of programmers have the habit of naming the variables using common names, for example I for counter variables and alphabets like a, b, c etc.
To avoid confusion scope of variables are used. Scoping defines the accessibility of data in the particular area. If you declare a variable outside the scope then it is considered as global variable while if it is declared inside the function then it is local variable. The local variable exists only while the function is being executed.
On the other hand a global variable is independent of any of the functions. If two variables are declared with the same variable name then the local variable is given preference over the global variable. Scope is a very important concept in the programming and should be understood by all to make a better program. It involves some basic concept which is required to be clear for any programming language.
